The day everyone has been anticipating – or dreading – has finally come. Today it will be decided who becomes the next President of the United States. With comparisons between the election and the EU referendum being thrown around everywhere in the press and indeed by Trump, the self-proclaimed “Mr. Brexit” himself, we decided to shed some light on the situation with the help of Dr Jacob Parakilas, a researcher and assistant head of the US and the Americas Programme at The Royal Institute of International Affairs Chatham House. He walks us through parallels between core messaging, voter demographic and polling results and gives us his take on whether Trump will pull off a Brexit-style surprise win and what that would mean for the UK.
